A 323-hectare private rainforest reserve on the Caribbean slopes of Costa Rica's Central Volcanic Mountain Range is offered for sale. Founded in 1989, La Reserva shares a 3-kilometer border with Braulio Carrillo National Park, one of the country's great green lungs.
The Corinth River and its 15 waterfalls
The Corinth River runs through the heart of the estate. In its path it has carved deep canyons and forms 15 waterfalls, which are vital for wildlife. The highest falls about 150 meters, a natural spectacle that almost no longer remains in private hands.
Off-grid lodge
In the middle of the forest is a fully self-sufficient, off-grid lodge. It has 5 rooms for up to 12 people and is the ideal base for ecotourism, retreats, research groups or private use.
An exceptional ecosystem
The reserve is composed of very humid tropical forest and low montane rainforest, formed by abundant rainfall, constant humidity and cool temperatures. Its dense, multi-layered canopy is home to towering emergent trees and a lush undergrowth of palms, tree ferns, and broadleaf plants. About 98% of the property remains primary forest.
Part of the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor
The Reserve is a key link in the forest connectivity that connects Mexico with Panama, as it allows wildlife to move safely between protected areas. It is one of the last truly intact strips of this corridor in Costa Rica.
Conservation with human impact
The owner sees conservation as inseparable from economic well-being and local care of the land. That is why it pays guides and staff fair wages, well above the average in the area, so that the protection of the forest directly benefits those who care for it.
A long-term vision
The project contemplates the reforestation and rewilding of degraded areas, the expansion of the protected area and the strengthening of biological corridors for the next generations. Today it functions as a remote rainforest lodge and protected reserve.
